Joining a group climb means you share the adventure with other trekkers who have signed up for the same departure. Instead of booking a private expedition, you’re matched with hikers who want to climb at the same time and along the same route. The group is limited to a small number of trekkers (usually 2–10 people), which keeps the experience personal and ensures everyone receives proper attention from the guiding team. Your guides set a comfortable pace, arrange logistics, and manage camp life, allowing you to focus on the trail and the view.
Group climbs are designed to maximise your chances of summiting while keeping costs reasonable. Because expenses like park fees, camping equipment and crew salaries are shared across the group, the price per person is lower than a private trek. For solo travellers or pairs who want to meet new people and enjoy a friendly, supportive atmosphere, group departures offer the perfect balance of adventure and affordability.

EXCELLENT Based on 114 reviews Posted on AlexGVerified Kilimanjaro- Lemosho Route Completed the 8 day Lemosho Route with Snow Africa and I couldn't be happier. The team of porters and guides was amazing. Our guides Paul and John were fantastic, they really know the mountain and how to guide you safely, they definitely care about your well-being and made the trip truly special. Unforgettable, highly recommend to anyone.Posted on Alana CVerified Exceptional Kili Climb with Snow Africa Adventures – Highly Recommended! I can’t recommend Snow Africa Adventures enough for your Kilimanjaro climb! When I began my search for an outfitter, I focused on KPAP-certified, Tanzanian-owned companies that offered “join a group” treks within my travel window. There were a few options, but Snow Africa stood out immediately thanks to Florent’s quick responses, excellent customer service, and thoughtful planning advice. Having guided on Kili for over a decade before founding Snow Africa, Florent knows every detail of how to make your climb safe, successful, and memorable. My partner and I joined another trekker (now friend!) for an 8-day Lemosho Route trek during the August 2025 full moon, and the entire trip was flawlessly organized. All 3 of us successfully summited. Our lead guide, Paul, and assistant guide, John, were a phenomenal team—genuinely caring about our health, morale, and ultimate success. We were supported by 12 hardworking porters and a fantastic chef. Special thanks to:Bazili – our chef, who kept us well-fed with generous, delicious meals.Justin – our attentive and always-smiling waiterSebastian – who maintained our private toilet (included!) the entire trek.Mohamed – who carried hot tea and my bag halfway to the summit.Rajabu, Petro, Bruno, Peter, Silvester, Godchance, Faustin, Dani, and Gasper – who tirelessly set up camp, resupplied food and water, and handled countless behind-the-scenes tasks to make us comfortable. One of my favorite moments was after our summit and descent—when the porters met us back at Barafu High Camp to celebrate, take our bags (even from the guides!), and lead us back to camp. From start to finish, this was an unforgettable adventure and an outstanding value. Huge thanks to Florent, Paul, John, and the entire Snow Africa team for making our trek amazing.Posted on Explorer01169132126Verified Kili in 8 days, ideal! A nice Snow team of porters and cooks, guided by our three guides, Paul, Innocent and Abdul patiently accompanied us, "pole pole" and with a smile to the summit (Uhuru peak) by the Lemosho road, ideal to respect the acclimatization levels.A nice excursion and very pleasant and interesting exchanges, which will remain a superb memory for our family.Posted on RasmusVerified Amazing Kilimanjaro Trekking I absolutely love how Florent got us joining just the right group on the Rongai route trek. We were very impressed by the perfect arrangements that were made for us by Florent and Mary back at the office. They took care of all the logistics up to the last details.Having three expert guides between the six of us was awesome. They did an awesome job of keeping us safe from start to finish. The trek is not easy but the beautiful views from the mountain, pristine mountain environment and trekking together with other climbers from other places supported by an awesome crew. They taught us so much about Kilimanjaro, geology, history and the habitats of the Kilimanjaro. Our crew was well equipped with enough supplies of food, water, snacks and additional items such that we did not have to worry about stuff.Sylvester, Simba and Pau deserve special recognition for being such awesome guides. I really appreciate their input as they adjusted the pace to suit our capabilities and accommodated us well within the larger group. We all managed to summit and are so happy with the outcome. We are truly grateful to the Snow Africa Adventure team. You are amazing.Posted on OlivierVerified Exceeded my expectations, AGAIN!! We returned to Tanzania to do Kiliamanjaro and it has been awesome! This was our second trip with Snow Africa Adventures and they are even better than I remember. Booking with Florent was a breeze as he was always available to answer our questions and provide all the information that we required. We really enjoyed the trek, though let no one fool that it's an easy undertaking. We would have failed miserably without the support from guides Ben Tati and Ben Muro. They were patient, accommodating and so dependable along the trail. They stayed by our side throughout helping and encouraging us, because we needed both physical and mental support on the climb. The signature superior service levels associated with Snow Africa were observed throughout, from the mobile toilet, superior equipment, excellent food and little special touches that make a huge difference on the mountain.I will keep on going back to Snow Africa Adventures as they always exceed my expectations!Posted on Martin BurnsVerified Unforgettable Kilimanjaro Experience I want to sound my sincere gratitude to Florent, Mary and the entire team of guides, porters and cook for taking care of my family during the recent Kilimanjaro trek. You really organized everything to perfection that it turned out so well.I must salute Ben and Washington for doing an outstanding job in guiding us to the summit through the Lemosho route. The outcome would have been less glorious without your support. They were knowledgeable, caring and thorough about everything including the health checks, attentive to notice when we tired or needed assistance and available for a chat or shared encouraging words when they sensed our fatigue and despair. The trek was well planned and we had great equipment, enough food and water for everyone and provided for essentials like the mobile toilet which made life better. The mood from our crew was warm and friendly and this helped to boost our morale knowing that we were with friends. This crew took excellent care of us and helped us push to our ultimate goal - the summit!I now have so much respect and adoration for Ben, Washington and their team. They made our Kilimanjaro dream come true!Posted on Nuno MarquezVerified Out of the world experience on safari Our return to Tanzania was an amazing experience. Florent our host had done it again!! He helped us plan a weeklong safari in Serengeti and Ngorongoro all in luxury camps.Big thanks to Haji who made the game drives unforgettable with his knowledge, intuition and expertise on the parks. The best part of our safari were the close encounters with lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, a leopard ...... lots of birds. The air balloon ride over the Serengeti was really amazing. We also visited a Maasai Boma with him.The food was consistently excellent and the lodges great places to stay and relax after the long days exploring the bush. Thank you all for an exceptionally romantic and wonderful time. I strongly recommend Snow Africa Adventures as an ideal host for tours and safaris in Tanzania.Posted on IngridVerified Perfect Vacation We love Snow Africa Adventures because they are the true definition of perfection! Our trip to Tanzania was exquisite to the last detail. From the moment we arrived in Tanzania to the safari, up to our departure on Sunday we had the best of Tanzania's hospitality. We have been on many vacations overseas and I can say that none come close to the dream safari that took us to Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro with Lorry our safari guide. It rained a lot during the safari but this made it even wilder, our 4x4 easily got us through the treacherous muddy road with ease as Lorry wowed us with beautiful sceneries filled with abundant wildlife. We managed to see all the big 5 within the first 3 days and continued with the great game drives on the subsequent days.We stayed in some of the best lodges in Tanzania, like the Little Chem Chem around Manyara and andBeyond Grumeti River Lodge in Serengeti. We really enjoyed this trip so much that I recommend Snow Africa Adventures to all.Posted on BorisVerified The Very Best In Tanzania Our safari trip to Tanzania with Snow Africa Adventures through Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater was absolutely incredible. Our guide Godfrey went out of his way to ensure that we enjoyed the trip and helped us create memories that will live with us forever. The game drives with Godfrey were the highlight of the trip. There was little other traffic as it is the low season but I thin this is the best time travel. We moved from one breathtaking sight to the next, the animals were abundant and Godfrey kept us captivate with his descriptions drawn from knowledge and farmiliarity that comes with experience. The lodges that Florent had picked for us were top of the range; well appointed with beautiful comfortable rooms, stunning common areas and special touches that made us feel pampered. I cannot recommend this operator enough because, they are really keen on giving the very best to their guests. We will definitely be coming back for another visit soon.

| Topic | Group Climbs | Private Climbs |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per person | Lower, because park fees, crew wages and equipment are shared. | Higher, since all costs are absorbed by your party. |
| Flexibility | Fixed departure dates and routes; you join the schedule that suits you. | Total flexibility on dates, pace and itinerary. |
| Atmosphere | Social and supportive; make friends from around the world. | More intimate; perfect for families or those seeking privacy. |
| Guides & porters | Professional guides, cooks and porters accompany the group; numbers scale with group size. | Dedicated guides and crew focused solely on your party. |
| Pace & acclimatisation | Guides balance different fitness levels and encourage a steady pace (“pole pole”) to help everyone acclimatise. | Pace tailored to your group’s fitness; can be slower or faster depending on your needs. |
Private climbs are ideal if you have specific travel dates or want complete control over your schedule. Group climbs, however, offer excellent value and the camaraderie of sharing your summit attempt with like‑minded adventurers.
Save Money – Park fees, camping equipment, guides and porters represent the bulk of Kilimanjaro costs. Splitting these expenses across several trekkers significantly lowers the price per person without sacrificing safety or comfort.
Meet New People – Few experiences bond strangers more than trekking up Africa’s highest peak. You’ll share stories, encourage each other during challenging sections and celebrate together at Uhuru Peak. Many trekkers leave the mountain with lifelong friends.
Professional Guiding Team – Each group is led by certified guides who know the mountain intimately. They manage pacing, monitor your health and provide daily briefings. Assistant guides, cooks and porters support the climb, ensuring you stay well‑fed and comfortable.
Guaranteed Departures – Group climbs operate on fixed dates throughout 2025–2026. Even if only two people sign up, the climb will still depart. Solo travellers don’t have to worry about meeting a minimum group size; your spot is secure.
Safety and Camaraderie – Trekking in a group provides built‑in support. If you’re feeling tired or struggling with altitude, there’s always someone to lean on, and guides are there to help immediately. A shared sense of purpose keeps morale high, especially on summit night.
Often called the “Whiskey Route,” Machame is one of Kilimanjaro’s most popular trails. It ascends the southern slope of the mountain and descends via the Mweka route. The trail begins in lush rainforest and quickly climbs into moorland, alpine desert and finally the arctic summit zone. According to trekking guides, the Machame route is considered one of the most scenic paths and has a comparatively high success rate, especially when trekkers opt for the seven‑day itinerary. The longer schedule allows for better acclimatisation because you climb to higher altitude during the day and drop back down to sleep, giving your body time to adjust. The route can become crowded during peak season, so joining a smaller group provides a more personal experience.
Highlights
Diverse landscapes: rainforest, moorland and alpine desert.
Good acclimatisation profile on the seven‑day itinerary.
High summit success rate relative to other routes.
Descends via a different trail, so you see new scenery on the way down.
Things to consider
The trail can be busy during the high season due to its popularity.
The six‑day version is more demanding on acclimatisation; first‑time trekkers should choose the seven‑day option.
7‑Day Machame Route – Full Itinerary – see day‑by‑day details and available departures.
The Lemosho route begins on Kilimanjaro’s western slope at Lemosho Gate (2,100 m) and is widely regarded as the most beautiful way to climb the mountain. It crosses the entire Shira Plateau, giving trekkers panoramic views of the mountain’s southern face. It joins the Machame trail at Shira Camp and descends via the Mweka route. Follow Alice notes that the Lemosho route offers fantastic scenery and a great acclimatisation profile. Spending seven or eight days on the trail allows your body to adjust gradually, which increases your summit success rate.
Highlights
Stunning scenery and varied ecosystems; considered the most beautiful route.
Excellent acclimatisation thanks to its longer duration.
Crosses the Shira Plateau, a high‑altitude savanna unique to Kilimanjaro.
Less crowded at the beginning because it starts on the remote western side.
Things to consider
Slightly more expensive than shorter routes because of its length.
Requires a longer time commitment (7–8 days).
8‑Day Lemosho Route – Full Itinerary.
Rongai is the only route that ascends Kilimanjaro from the northern side and is considered one of the quietest trails. The climb is a gentle, steady ascent through rainforest and moorland, making it a good option for trekkers seeking an easier gradient. Follow Alice describes Rongai as one of the least‑used ascent routes and notes that it is quieter than other trails. Because it lacks the “climb high, sleep low” profile of other routes, its summit success rate is middling, so proper acclimatisation is essential.
Highlights
Starts on the remote northern flank, offering solitude and unique views toward Kenya’s Amboseli National Park.
Gentle gradient makes it physically easier than steeper routes.
Avoids the Barranco Wall, which some trekkers find intimidating.
Camps beneath Mawenzi Peak, providing dramatic alpine scenery.
Things to consider
Lacks “climb high, sleep low” opportunities, so acclimatisation can be more challenging.
Summit success rate is lower than on the Machame or Lemosho routes.
