This is the oldest route compare to other routes. Marangu gate is the Park head quarters. The route is well maintained with nicer trail. This is the only huts route. Sleep in huts with big Mattresses, big dining house and great toilets.Many people think this is more popular route, but not. As every Climber think this is more popular route due to advertisement, now is empty. Few Climbers use this trail as many Climbers use camping route. Start hike at Marangu gate and finish at the same gate.
Pick up at Kilimanjaro airport and drive to Stella Maris lodge in Moshi Town 30-40 minutes. This lodge is before Moshi town. Has the perfect view of Mount Kilimanjaro. Enjoy your lovely stay in this lodge with comfortable beds and hot shower. Overnight based on bed and breakfast.
Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch and drinking water drive to Marangu Park gate one hour. After check in start walking to Mandara hut. Walking under the shades of heavy rain forest. See monkeys and beautiful birds like Turaco or forest birds. Get picnic lunch at half way. After lunch continue walking to Mandara hut. The walk takes about 4hrs. Dinner and overnight at Mandara hut 2,720m. Based on full board basis.
Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch and drinking water, walk to Horombo hut. Nice day walking on heather and Moorland zone. Get perfect view of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The trail is gradual and gets great view of forest and villages. The walk to horombo takes about 5-6 hours. Dinner and overnight at horombo hut 3,720m. Based on full board basis.
Acclimatization day. After late breakfast, enjoy 2hrs walk up to Zebra rock. See great view of mountain on the view point of Zebra rock. Return at the hut through different route. Get hot lunch at the hut. After lunch relax at the hut. Dinner and overnight at horombo hut 3,720m. Based on full board basis.
Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch and drinking water, walk to Kibo hut. The day is a bit chill walking on alpine desert through saddle area. The walk today to kibo hut takes about 4-5hrs. Get picnic lunch at saddle area and continue walking slowly to the hut. Dinner and overnight at Kibo hut 4,720m. Based on full board basis.
Midnight after refreshing tea with cookies with your drinking water, start walking for summit. Walking with only guides. Porters and Chef will wait you at the Kibo hut. Walking slowly up to Gilmans point 5,685m for about 5-6hrs. After relax at Gilmans point for about few minutes continue walking to Uhuru Peak following crater rim for about 1-2hrs more to the highest point Uhuru Peak 5,895m. Take pictures for about 20 minutes. Descend to horombo hut via Kibo hut. The walk to Kibo hut takes about 3hrs. Get breakfast and continue down to horombo hut for other more 3hrs. Dinner and overnight at horombo hut 3,720m. Based on full board basis.
Morning after breakfast with your drinking water, walk down to Marangu Park gate 5-6hrs. You will get hot lunch at Marangu Park gate. After Lunch say goodbye with other porters not going to Moshi. Meet Van and transfer to Moshi town one hour. Overnight at Stella Maris lodge..

The iconic mountain which considered as the roof of Africa attracts more than 30,000 trekkers every year not only because of its height but also because of the panoramic view of the mountain. Kilimanjaro international Airport is the Kilimanjaro and safari gateway. You will be taken from there to Arusha City one or Moshi town one hour for overnight. The following day drive to Kilimanjaro mountain park gates.
