The groundwater forest is dark and lush, hiding blue monkeys and enormous pythons. Out on the floodplain, you search for the tree-climbing lions that have made this park famous. The Ngorongoro Crater on your final day is the highlight. Descending into the caldera at first light, you enter a self-contained world where predators and prey coexist in extraordinary density. A morning game drive here typically produces 15 to 20 different mammal species, including a genuine chance at spotting black rhino.
