Tarangire National Park

Destination Overview

Tarangire is one of the iconic national parks in the northern circuit of Tanzania. The national park is located in the Manyara Region. The Tarangire national park is truly mesmerizing with its untamed wildlife as well as the great scenic view.

The Tarangire national park got its name from the Tarangire River that flows in the heart of the national park. The river never dries up and one of the primary sources of fresh water for the animals of the national park. Hence the river plays an important role in the Tarangire Ecosystem.

The national park covers up 2,850 square kilometers of the land area. The landscape of the Tarangire national park is varied; it goes through the river valley to acacia woodland as well from green vegetation to swamps.

The national park is located in a remote area; however, it is a well-known national park due to its large concentration of elephants. It is just 70km away from Lake Manyara but covers up 10 times more land than Lake Manyara National park.

Tarangire National Park is mostly underrated by the travelers as they expect the national park has less game view. However, once you set your foot inside the national park you will realize the national park has to offer a great array of wildlife and birdlife.

The national park has also to offer a small migration view. However, it is not as iconic as the great migration takes place in Serengeti National Park. The migration doesn’t include millions of wildebeests but can be truly an interesting event to witness. There are small herds of plain games migrate to the area in search of food and water from the Tarangire River in dry months.
