The Machame Route, also known as the “Whiskey Route,” is a popular and challenging path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting from the dense rainforest at Machame Gate, the trail ascends through diverse ecosystems, including moorlands and the stunning Lava Tower. This route is known for its beautiful vistas and panoramic views. Despite its shorter duration, the 6-day itinerary includes strategically placed campsites, providing adequate acclimatization. The final push to Uhuru Peak begins at Barafu Camp, rewarding climbers with a spectacular sunrise over the roof of Africa.

Full Itinerary

Day 0' Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport. Meet with amazing welcomes from our driver and transfer to Arusha City 50 Minutes to one hour. You’ll check in at Tulia Boutique hotel and Spa. The hotel has a beautiful room, delicious meal, swimming pool and Spa. Your overnight in this hotel based on bed and breakfast.

Morning after breakfast with a packed picnic lunch our team will pick you up and drive to Machame Park gate 2hrs. Upon arrival, you’ll start walking slowly through the heavy rainforest to the Machame hut campsite. You can see black and white Colobus Monkeys and blue Monkeys on the way. Great scenery and lush and huge rain forest makes this route unique. The walk takes about 5-6 hrs. Overnight stay at Machame hut campsite 2,835m.

Morning after breakfast with packed picnic lunch, continue walking to Shira cave campsite. The day is clear, walking on the heather and moorland zone. Today the trail is a bit steep. Two peaks Shira and Kibo seen well. You’ll see perfect view of Mount Meru in Arusha as well. The walk takes about 4-5hrs. Overnight at Shira cave campsite 3,750m.

Morning after breakfast with a packed picnic lunch continue walking east side facing Kibo Peak. The day is chill crossing to the alpine desert. Get a picnic lunch at Lava Tower 4,600m. After lunch descend to the baranco camp. The walk today takes approximately 6-7 hours. Overnight at Baranco camp 3,900m.

Morning after breakfast with a packed picnic lunch continue walking east side facing Kibo Peak. The day is chill crossing to the alpine desert. Get a picnic lunch at Lava Tower 4,600m. After lunch descend to the baranco camp. The walk today takes approximately 6-7 hours. Overnight at Baranco camp 3,900m.

The morning after breakfast with a picnic lunch continue walking to Barafu camp through the alpine desert. The walk to the barafu camp takes about 2-3 hours. Overnight at Barafu camp 4,673m.

Midnight after refreshing tea with cookies, start walking for the summit. This is a bit challenging day looking to make your dream come true. The walk to the summit takes about 6-7 hours. After arriving on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro UHURU PEAK 5,895m, take photos for about 20 minutes after photos descend to Mweka camp via barafu camp. The walk down takes about 3 hours to Barafu camp. Relax for about 1 hour. Get breakfast. After breakfast continue walking down 3-4 hours to Mweka camp. Overnight at Mweka camp 3,100m.

The morning after breakfast descends to Mweka Park gate under a beautiful rainforest for about 3-4 hours. After checking out the Park, meet Van and transfer to Arusha City for 2 hours. Overnight at Tulia Boutique hotel and Spa. Please note. Day 8. our driver will pick you up at the hotel and transfer you to the Airport for your home flight or other destination.
