The 6 Days Rongai Route is the best choice for climbers seeking a less crowded and scenic trek to the Uhuru Peak (5,895m) of Mount Kilimanjaro. This Rongai Route Kilimanjaro trek offers a gradual ascent, stunning views, and a high summit success rate. Compared to other routes, Rongai Route approaches from the north, providing a unique wilderness experience and excellent acclimatization opportunities.

Itinerary

Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport, where you will be met and transferred to Stella Maris lodge near Moshi town, a journey of approximately 30 minutes. Upon arrival, check in at Stella Maris lodge, renowned for its comfortable beds and the stunning view of Mount Kilimanjaro just from the bed room. Enjoy your first night at Stella Maris lodge.

In the morning, after breakfast, our team will pick you up at the Stella Maris lodge and transfer you to the Rongai Park Gate, a journey taking approximately 3-4 hours. Upon arrival, embark on a slow trek through the dense rainforest towards Simba Camp 3 hrs. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of lush greenery and towering trees, which attract a variety of wildlife, including black and white Colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, baboons, and numerous bird species. Overnight stay at Simba campsite 2,671m.

After breakfast and filling your drinking water, continue your trek to the Kikelewa Campsite. Enjoy a beautiful day walking through the heather and moorland zone of the mountain, with stunning views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The trek takes approximately 6 hours. Upon arrival at Kikelewa Campsite 3,600m, enjoy dinner and settle in for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, continue your trek to Mawenzi Tarn Hut Campsite, a scenic walk that takes approximately 3 hours through the alpine desert zone. Upon arrival, enjoy a hot lunch at the camp. In the evening, take a one-hour acclimatization hike to Mawenzi Peak before returning to the camp for dinner. Enjoy an overnight stay on a full board basis.  4315m

After breakfast, including a picnic lunch, continue your trek to Kibo Hut Camp. Today’s journey takes you through the stunning alpine desert zone, covering the distance to Kibo Hut in about 4 hours. Upon arrival at Kibo Hut (4,720m), enjoy dinner and settle in for an overnight stay.

At midnight, enjoy refreshing tea and cookies before starting your ascent to Uhuru Peak. The trek to the summit takes approximately 6-7 hours. You’ll navigate through the stunning alpine desert and glacier zones, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,685m) in about 5-6 hours. After a brief rest, continue for another 2 hours along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, where you’ll have about 20 minutes to take photos and celebrate your achievement.

Afterward, descend back to Kibo Hut, which takes about 3-4 hours. Once at Kibo Hut, relax for 2 hours before enjoying breakfast. Finally, descend to Horombo Hut campsite, taking around 3 hours for the journey. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at Horombo hut 3720m.

After breakfast, begin your descent to Marangu Park Gate, completing the journey in about 6 hours. Upon arrival, enjoy picnic lunch at the gate. After lunch, meet your van for a comfortable 1-hour transfer to Moshi. Please note day 7, our drive will pick you at the lodge and transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your home flight or another destination.

Kilimanjaro international Airport is the Kilimanjaro and safari gateway. You will be taken from there to Arusha City one or Moshi town one hour for overnight. The following day drive to Kilimanjaro mountain park gates.
